Matt Hare has variously worked in academia, the private sector and the United Nations on participatory modelling in complex systems and community engagement towards climate change adaptation. His Ph. D. used Artificial Intelligence and compositional modelling to develop agent-based models to explore grouse population dynamics. His early career then focused primarily on participatory water resources management, and the implementation of Article 14 of the European Union’s Water Framework Directive in various river basins across Europe. He has participated in and led projects funded by the European Union, in Framework Programmes 3, 5, 6 and 7. His work for the UN entailed developing the capacities of stakeholders from across the world in water-related climate change adaptation. He has since undertaken consultancy work for the Mexican Government and other local organisations aimed at scaling up in-country capacities for community-and ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change.
